Acts 13:2 NIV While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.”
Matthew 28:18-20 NIV Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
The above scriptures teach us that Christ called us to make disciples of all nations and that the Holy Spirit specifically sets individuals apart for this missionary work. The missionary role is to reach, teach and spread the “good news”. Romans 10:14 states, “How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?”
The Missionary Circle at Mt. Calvary was organized around 1899 with seven members. Today we are continuing with the same activities of visiting the sick at home with an extension to nursing home, rehabilitation centers and the hospitals. We have added sending cards, providing donations (clothing and food) to outreach centers in Durham. Those who don’t drive use the telephone as their outreach. We also provide school supplies to other nations with and through the ECGA Woman’s Auxiliary. With Covid, we are challenged with helping in nonconventional ways.
God continues to call workers. We as Missionaries should “Get Up and Go” as written in Acts 22:15-16.
